Production Part Approval Process, or PPAP as it is referred to, is used in the production process of supply chains, mainly in the automotive industry. It is a way that:
“All customer engineering design record and specification requirements are properly understood by the supplier and that the process has the potential to produce product consistently meeting these requirements during an actual production run at the quoted production rate”
The Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) is an automotive body that has established a mutual PPAP standard as part of the advanced product quality planning (APQP). This encourages a shared use of common terminology and standardised documents. However, even with the APQP’s standard, each OEM or manufacturer has their own particular requirements and conditions that they add to the PPAP process.
